Gov Pillen and the Department of Agriculture are trying to ban consumable hemp products.
All your favorite gummies, drinks, cookies, oils, and other edible products will be made illegal if the proposed rules are adopted “as-is.” President Trump has promised a federal compromise on new hemp regulations, but the governor has decided to jump the gun and make his own. This ban will cost NE $10 million in tax revenue and kill thousands of jobs. Banning hemp makes our way of life worse, not better!

To the Department of Agriculture,
I am writing as a consumer and someone with loved ones who rely on hemp-derived products every day. I respectfully oppose the proposed rules that would effectively ban consumable hemp products.
These products are not about getting high. They help everyday people manage chronic pain, anxiety, insomnia, Parkinson’s, PTSD, and other serious health conditions. Veterans, seniors, soccer moms, and hard-working adults depend on safe, regulated hemp products to improve their quality of life without turning to addictive and expensive pharmaceuticals.
Many consumers specifically seek non-intoxicating hemp gummies and tinctures because they want relief without experiencing the euphoric effects of smokable hemp products. Banning consumable hemp will not eliminate demand. It will push consumers to the unregulated black market or force them to travel out of state, putting public health and safety at risk.
I support common-sense regulations, not prohibition. Consistent state and federal standards, as called for in President Trump’s Executive Order, will protect consumers while preserving safe access for adults.
A ban would harm everyday Nebraskans, disrupt small businesses, and create confusion about what is legal and safe. It would damage the economy through thousands of lost jobs and millions of dollars in reduced tax revenue. Rather than rushing into overly broad restrictions, I urge you to wait for clear federal guidance and implement thoughtful regulations that prioritize safety, access, and clarity.
Hemp products provide real relief for real people. Please protect access for your constituents who depend on them.
